This medicine is used for the treatment of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, manic depression, manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, paranoid disorder, eating disorders like anorexia and anorexia nervosa, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, delusional parasitosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, Tourette syndrome, stuttering, agitation and agitated state, suicidal thinking and behaviors, Asperger's syndrome, body dysmorphic disorder, borderline personality disorder, sleep disorders (including insomnia, difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep), nausea and vomiting induced by chemotherapy. It is prescribed along or with fluoxetine to treat certain types of depression such as major depressive disorder and bipolar I disorder. This drug is in research studies for the therapy of hyperactivity, aggressive behavior, repetitive behaviors in autism. Olanzapine works by helping to correct chemical imbalances in the brain, which may cause mental illness.
